Santa Ynez, CA (June 4, 2022) – The tally of winners from the first crop of 2021 California Leading Freshman Sire Stanford rose by two yesterday when both Prayer of Jabez and Babtiste Lasalle earned their maiden diplomas.
Second generation Tommy Town homebred Prayer of Jabez had started off his career with two in-the-money finishes in as many starts. Today, he was part of a field of ten that lined-up for the nightcap at Golden Gate Fields, a six furlong maiden special weight over the all weather.
Prayer of Jabez kept the leader honest through the first half-mile and assumed the lead at the top of the stretch. A closer came calling late, but the 3-year-old gelding had plenty left to win by three-quarters of a length.
Trained by Jonathan Wong, Prayer of Jabez was produced by the winning Kafwain mare, Alwazabridesmaid.
Babtiste Lasalle had also placed in her first two starts before a very troubled trip last time out. There was no trouble to day as she took the field wire-to-wire to win the 8th race at Emerald Downs traveling five furlongs over the fast surface. She set a swift pace and dug in late to gamely win by a head.
The 3-year-old filly was bred by Mr. and Mrs. William T. Griffin and she is out of the 10-time winning Henny Hughes mare, Matching Skies. She races for MGP Trust and is trained by Dan Markle.
