Arcadia and Albany CA (March 22.2020) – Audace was the first of two maiden special weight winners for Ministers Wild Cat. The 3-year-old gelding opened his win account with a strong performance in the 3rd race at Santa Anita Park going seven furlongs for a purse of $55,500.
Sharply away from post two, Audace took the lead passing the gap and rattled off the first quarter in 22.72. He continued on through a half in 45.43. Coming off the final turn, his lead was challenged from the inside. Headed for a few strides, he dug back in, regained the lead and drew away in the final furlong to win by a length and one-half. Final time for distance was 1:24.22.
Audace was produced by the multiple stakes winning Bold Badgett mare, Bold Roberta. He is a full brother to multiple stakes winner Bella Luma. Bred in California by Thomas Bachman, he races for Michael and Janet Dante and he is trained by Mike Puype.
Later up the coast at Golden Gate Fields, Audace’s cropmate Eustace earned his first victory with a completely different racing style. Going six furlongs in the 7th race, Eustace sat a patient trip four lengths off the leaders racing down the backstretch. He moved closer around the turn and split horses at the top of the stretch. He engaged the leader passing the eighth pole and opened up to win by a comfortable two lengths. He stopped the clock in 1:10.85.
The 3-year-old gelding was bred in California by Curt and Lila Lanning. Produced by the Bertrando mare, Hand Tricks, he races for Steve Moger and is trained by Ed Moger, Jr.
