Cypress, CA (December 18, 2020) – Empire House, our 2-year-old daughter of Empire Maker, made her second start a winning one with a pace pressing trip in the 5th race at Los Alamitos Race Course, a maiden special weight going five and one-half furlongs.
Away sharply from post two, Empire House took up the pace battle with the filly to her inside. Sitting off her saddle for the first three-eighths, Empire House took the turn a bit wide, but she had put the leader away. Clearing off by more than a length, she gamely held her advantage all the way to the wire.
Trained by Jonathan Wong, Empire Way comes from a family with a history of precocity, but they were not sprinters. Bred in Kentucky by Lakland Farm, she is out of the Mineshaft mare, Mama Yay, a full sister to Florida Derby (G1) winner and successful sire Dialed In. Her third dam is the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Eliza, herself a full sister to Santa Anita Derby (G1)winner Dinard.
