Tommy Town Daily Double at Del Mar

Del Mar, CA (August 25, 2022) – It was a Tommy Town daily double to open the card at Del Mar today as Prayer of Jabez and Sally’s Sassy made back-to-back visits to the seaside oval’s winner’s circle.

Homebred Prayer of Jabez began the day favored to win five and one-half furlong dash over the main track and the 3-year-old son of Stanford did not disappoint, despite some early trouble. Breaking out, he has checked hard by jockey Abel Cedillo and the pair found themselves shuffled back further than expected. When a lane to run did not open on the inside, the only route was to go around, which they did on the turn. He took the lead at the top of the stretch and drew away win by more than four lengths.

Prayer of Jabez has finished in the top three in five of his six career starts. Trained by Jonathan Wong, he was produced by the winning Kafwain mare Alwazabridesmaid.

The 2nd race was an open maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies over the firm turf course. It drew a field of nine with our debuting Sally’s Sassy in the outside post. The West Coast daughter was away cleanly, but she was not part of the early pace. She settled four lengths back of the pacesetter and had that same margin to make up at the top of the stretch. Showing the poise of a veteran campaigner, she closed stoutly and got up in the final strides to win by a head and galloped out well ahead of her competition.

Also from the Jonathan Wong shedrow, Sally’s Sassy was acquired at this year’s OBS Spring Sale. Bred by Buck Pond Farm, Inc., she was produced by the stakes winning Posse mare, Sharp Sally, a half-sister to G1 winner Annals of Time. This is the family of G1 winners Hollywood Story and Honor A. P.
