Stanford’s Sixth Winner Arrives Opening Weekend at Del Mar

Del Mar, CA (July 18, 2021) – Ko Olina, who crossed the line first in her previous outing, only to unfortunately be disqualifed, put her racing misstep aside with a clear cut maiden special weight victory in the 8th race at Del Mar. She is the sixth winner for California’s Leading Freshman Sire Stanford.

Ko Olina was first out of the gate and skipped away to the lead in five furlong contest over the fast main track and for the most part, that was the last she saw of her seven opponents. The filly in second chased all the way, but Ko Olina was kept to her business by jockey Edwin Maldonado and won by a length and one-half.

Ko Olina has earned $79,576 in her young career for C. T. R. Stables LLC. Trained by Luis Mendez, she was bred by BKB Stables , LLC, and Jerry and Brenda Haugg. She was produced by the Mr. Greeley mare, Nine to Five Lady.
