Stanford Filly Carmen Miranda Back-to-Back Allowance Winner
Cypress, CA (December 17, 2022) – Carmen Miranda, the stakes-placed daughter of Stanford, made it two straight visits to the winner’s circle with her victory over allowance foes in the 9th race at Los Alamitos.
Seven fillies and mares stepped into the gate for the six furlong contest. Breaking from post five and with speed to her inside, the 3-year-old filly quickly engaged in the battle for the lead. She and the older filly duel into the stretch. Asked to finish, Carmen Miranda began to clear and had plenty left to hold off the later close who came calling. She crossed under the wire a length and one-quarter best.
Named for the famous singer and movie actress dubbed “The Brazilian Bombshell”, Carmen Miranda had now earned $152,330. Trained by Phil D’Amato, she is a third generation homebred for owner/breeder Nick Alexander. Her dam is the winning Tribal Rule mare, Miranda Rose.
