Stakes Winning Double for Ministers Wild Cat

Phoenix, AZ (April 22, 2022) – Stephen James and Arizona Sun, the son and daughter respectively of Ministers Wild Cat, scored a stakes double for their sire today at Turf Paradise.

First up was Stephen James, who earned the first stakes victory of his career in the $60,000 Dwight D. Patterson Stakes going a mile and one-sixteenth over the fast main track. Overcoming an awkward start, he tracked from third until the final turn. Coming into the stretch four wide, he took the lead and gamely held off all the challenges through the stretch to win by a neck.

The 4-year-old gelding races for Saratoga West and he is trained by Jeffrey Metz. He was bred by Fleming Thoroughbred Farm LLC and is out of the Mazel Trick mare, Suchaprettygirl.

Three races later, Arizona Sun remained undefeated in 2022 with her win in the Ann Owens Distaff Stakes over six furlongs on the main track. Though the distances were not similar, the trips were. Arizona Sun was away from the outside post and she settled into third down the backstretch. She also had to take the overland route around the turn. She gained the lead in upper stretch and had an easier time in the final furlong, drawing away to win by four and one-half lengths.

The 5-year-old mare was also bred by Fleming Thoroughbred Farm LLC and she is out of the multiple stakes winning In Excess (IRE) mare, Cave Springs. Racing for Randy Howg, she has twelve wins, three seconds and four thirds in her twenty-three lifetime starts. She is trained by Robertino Diodoro.
