Smokin’ Hot Scores Adventurous Golden Gate Victory

Albany, CA (January 21, 2023) – Smokin’ Hot, our homebred 3-year-old son of Goldencents, found several ways to turn the 8th race at Golden Gate into his own personal adventure, but his determined effort earned him a visit to the winner’s circle in the one mile allowance over the all weather.

Breaking from the inside post, he was swiftly out of the gate and an outside foe made it a match race for the lead. The two went at it for a solid five furlongs, with Smokin’ Hot seemingly putting his challenger away. Ah, but the fun was just beginning. He found himself alone on the lead coming off the final turn, but he neglected to turn. Jockey Julien Couton worked diligently to correct the error, but the lead was gone and they found themselves closer to the grandstand than the infield. Couton asked Smokin’ Hot to close and miraculously, he still had something left. He came running down the outside and got up in time to win by a head.

Smokin’ Hot is trained by Jonathan Wong. He is out of the More Than Ready mare, Shez Coming in Hot.
