Pappy Boyington Debuts a Winner

Albany, CA (August 2, 2020) – Pappy Boyington showed the poise of a seasoned runner in his victorious career debut in the 8th race at the Golden Gate Sonoma meeting, a six furlong maiden special weight over the all weather with a purse of $36,000.

The 2-year-old Grazen colt was down in post one and if he showed any inexperience, it was a half-step slow break from the gate. He settled into the second flight, and patiently rated under jockey Alejandro Gomez. He maintained his position until the top of the stretch when racing room opened along the rail. Asked to go, he answered with a solid turn of foot to take the lead and open up to win going away by two and one-half lengths.

Named after the Medal of Honor winner of World War II, he is a homebred racing for Nick Alexander. Trained by Steve Miyadi, he is out of the winning Sky Mesa mare, Sky Marni.
