Becca Taylor made her first start against winners and 3-year-old daughter of Old Topper kept her unbeaten record intact, with a victory in the 1st race at Santa Anita, a six furlong allowance over the firm turf course.
Speed has been the dominant factor early in the meeting for the sprints coming out of the new chute and coming from off the pace has been rare. Becca Taylor broke sharply from post three but she was not part of the early pace. Tracking from four lengths back, she lost some additional ground in traffic. She moved off the rail and began to make close as the field rounded the turn. She still had a gap to narrow passing the eighth pole, but she kicked into gear and caught the leading pair. Taking over, she threw her ears forward and ran onto the wire much the best by a length and one-quarter.
Becca Taylor races as a homebred for Nick Alexander and she is trained by Steven Miyadi. She was produced by the winning General Meeting mare, Lady Sax.
