Multiple Stakes Winner Lieutenant Dan Wins 2021 Debut

Del Mar, CA (July 23, 2021) – Multiple stakes winner Lieutenant Dan, the 5-year-old son of Grazen, dashed to victory in his 2021 seasonal debut in the 6th race at Del Mar.

Nine runners lined-up to vie for the winner’s share of the $89,320 purse in the five furlong turf allowance. Lieutenant Dan was swiftly away from post two and took up the battle from the rail position down the backstretch and around the turn. Those who went with him early were not with him late. He drew clear through the stretch and held his advantage to win by a length and one-half.

Lieutenant Dan is a remarkably consistent performer. He has won or placed in thirteen of his fourteen career start and you have to go back to the winter of 2019 to find his one performance out of the top three. He has earned $483,740 for his owner/breeder Nick Alexander. Trained by Steve Miyadi, he was produced by the winning In Excess (IRE) mare, Excusabull.
