Grazen Scores a Double at Santa Anita

Arcadia, CA (June 5, 2021) – Grazen, who sits third on the California General Sires List and would be sitting atop if only California-sired foals were considered, had two winners on the card today at Santa Anita.

The first was the 3-year-old filly, Wishtheyallcouldbe, who earned her maiden special weight victory in the 3rd race, going six and one-half furlongs over the fast main track. Tracking the pacesetter and her companion until the top of the stretch, she used a nifty rail run to draw even and then away in the final sixteenth to win by a length and one-half. The second place finisher, Feeling Grazeful, is also a daughter of Grazen.

Wishtheyallcouldbe campaigns for the partnership of Paymaster Racing LLC and Slugo Racing and she is trained by Mike Puype. Produced by the winning Cahill Road mare, Cielo Dulce, she was bred by Stormy B. Hull.

Three races later, the multiple stakes-placed Desmond Doss, named for the World War II Medal of Honor recipient, overcame trouble at the start to earned the fourth victory of his career, taking a $78,120 allowance going a mile and one-sixteenth over the main oval.

Stumbling out of the gate, the 5-year-old horse quickly recovered and found a stalking position a length and one-half off the leaders. He began to challenge around the far turn and gained the lead at the top of the stretch. He battled his rival into the final furlong, where he proved best and came home two and one-quarter lengths clear.

Desmond Doss has earned $220,091 for owner/breeder Nick Alexander. Trained by Steve Miyadi, he is out of the stakes-winning Malek (CHI) mare, Malley Girl.
