Rose Maddox Wins $75,000 Moscow Burning Stakes
Albany, CA (January 28, 2023) – Rose Maddox closed from fifth along the inside in the final furlong to win the first stakes of her career in Saturday’s $75,900 Moscow Burning Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares at Golden Gate Fields.
Ridden by Assael Espinoza, Rose Maddox ($8.40) closed from seventh in a field of eight to finish a length in front of 7-5 favorite Chancery Way.

At Santa Anita, Grazen was represented by two winners on their card. The first was Shocking Grey, who, after three straight second place finishes in her first three races, broke her maiden last out and has now won twice-in-a-row. He latest victory came in the 3rd race, a one mile allowance over the firm turf course.
Last through the first half, Shocking Grey and leading rider Juan Hernandez weaved their way through traffic and go up in the late going to win by one length.
A homebred for Donald Valpredo, Shocking Grey is trained by Jeff Mullins. The 4-year-old filly is out of the Unbridled’s Song mare, Seoul Unbridled.
One race later, Cornelia Fort broke her maiden in her second start going six furlongs over the fast main track. Overcoming a bump at the start she pressed the pace, took over with a quarter-mile to run and drew away to win by nearly three lengths.
A Nick Alexander homebred, the 3-year-old filly was produced by the Unusual Heat mare, An Unusual Group. She is trained by Steve Miyadi.
